A night at the museum? That’s the first thing that comes to mind when I think back to The Captain Lord Mansion in Kennebunkport, Maine. This beautiful inn takes you back in time and gives you a glimpse of the life of the successful captains and their wives. Huge four poster beds decorated with tapestries and embroidered cushions, fantastic art and a cosy fire make it a very special place to stay. And the breakfast? Yum. Some people travel halfway the world to enjoy the three course country menu with strawberry French toast, Belgian waffles and their famous Stackers, a tower of potato pancakes filled with ham, scrambled eggs and cheddar cheese. Try it all, then skip lunch and dinner…although that might be hard. Five minutes from the inn, along the Route 9 you’ll find one of the best lobster rolls we’ve tasted. But more about that tomorrow!
