It’s snowing in Amsterdam and I love it! It’s almost like we got a second Christmas, only without the turkey, presents and tree (even though ours is still going strong in our yard where we left it). The thing is, that when it’s warm I think back of icecold winter destinations, like Iceland where we went a few months ago and it was -14 degrees Celsius. And when it’s freezing my mind wanders back to tropical beaches, pineapple juice and a sea that has a temperature that is exactly right. Not too cold, so you can jump right in. And nog too warm, so you feel refreshed after an hour of reading in the sun. Gili Trawangan is such a place. It sounds cliché, but the palmtrees are tropical green, the water is turquois and the sky is blue. The best part – yes it gets even better! – is the total emptiness. Meters and meters of sand are there just for you. So if you’re looking for a place to escape the cold and crowds, this is it.
