About Us

Fish and Feathers was launched by journalist Hilde Veeren (Feathers) and photographer Maarten Vis (Fish) in 2009. We have both been working in the (travel) magazine business for over ten years, and decided that publishing our stories in travel magazines alone wasn’t enough. We started our blog during a three-month sabbatical in Asia in 2009. At first just for our friends and family, but as soon as we realised our audience grew each day, we professionalised our blog.

Favorites
Hilde’s favorite spot: “If I have to choose it will forever be Vivenda Goa, a small boutique hotel in Goa where Maarten proposed.” Maarten’s favorite destination: I love islands: Gili Trawangan, Mallorca and even Terschelling. But I bet if I ever get to travel to Chile, I’ll have a new number one!”

Our readers
We remember the first readers we got and our excitement when the numbers jumped from 50 per day in 2009 (mainly our family and friends) to many more in a few weeks! Every day we got more followers: The Netherlands, the USA, Germany, England, India, Iceland, Australia, Japan, Brazil…. everywhere around the world people read our blog and we are very thankful for that! Last November we restyled our blog, which resulted in even more readers each day. We recently added a Facebook page and Twitter to our blog.
